What is coaching?


ICF defines coaching as partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires a person to maximize their personal and professional potential. The process of coaching often unlocks previously untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership.

what is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Coaching is future focused. Meaning the client is coming forward with current hurdles or goals in order build out their vision and achieve success going forward. Coaching is highly centred around performance, improvement, and self-development.

Therapy is more focused on the past. Meaning the client tunes into past emotions and happenings to recover from trauma and better understand the present. Therapy is primarily based on personal healing.

WHAT DO YOU COVER IN A DISCOVERY CALL?

A discovery call is essentially a coaching blind date. This 30 minute call is designed to establish whether the relationship between coach and potential client is a match.

What is an exploratory call?

An exploratory call is the initial coaching call between the coach and the client. The purpose of this call is for the coach to really learn about their client, establish roles and responsibilities and work together to create objectives for the coaching engagement.

how do sessions work?

All coaching sessions are considered client led. This means that the client will lead the conversation and the coach will co-create with the client to help them achieve a desired outcome. That said, success is entirely based on the client and their willingness to make changes in their own life. The coach will assist the client in gaining clarity, as well as make offerings when the client accepts, but the overall success is up to the client.
